It

by BlackDiamond

It calls to me

It knows my pain

It can sense my struggles

It promises me sweet relief

For a small price

I must give myself to it

Become a part of it

... Get lost in it....

Disappear....

It's so tempting

To let it wash away all my pain

It's something I want to do

Let it consume me

And forget everything

But not today

@BlackDiamond I see that after a reread. I had originally thought of the water as a metaphor for addiction. When I see the water as a metaphor for the pull and lure to self-destruction, it becomes even more powerful. I don't know if the attraction one feels is for self-destruction or just to end the agony. At my age, I look upon self-destruction as having a final controlling determination rather than waiting to rot and waste away.

@bernardtwindwil it's actually based on suicide and drowning. But it does work for addiction too. I appreciate that you had a different take on it
