Bijan Sarhangpour sponsored and organized the recent International Fencing Competition, held in Isfahan's Saber Arms in memory of his late son, Rouzbeh Sarhangpour.
On the first day of the tournament, 11 domestic teams, two foreign teams (Azerbaijan and Iraq) and 53 athletes total competed in 191 qualifying and knockout matches.
At the end of the first day of the Saber Arms tournament, Muhammad Rahbari's men took the lead in a very close and beautiful game.
Ali Pakdaman captured second and Muhammad Fotouhi and Matebi Abedini tied for third.
Today's champions received $8,000. Second place received $5,000 and third-place winners received $3,000 in cash, courtesy of Mr. Bijan Sarhangpour. Mr.
Sarhangpour is the father of Rouzbeh and an investor in the International Fencing Academy in the city of Isfahan province.
The competition continues on Saturday and Sunday (October 6 and 7) at the Flora Arms.
