Screaming Eagles

by bernardtwindwil

We have a rendezvous with destiny

We were mustered, formed and trained in forty-four Volunteers all ran until their legs were strong as oak

Our strength and courage strike the spark

Practiced in harness and helm to jump out the door Bravery in common the fire of patriotism they stoke

That will always set men free

We were afraid flak and darkness was our night When we jumped into France to liberate the land

Assault right down through the skies of blue

Behind the beaches of Normandy, we showed our might Against the fascist of Europe we maid our noble stand

keep your eye on the job to be done

We've done the same for every threat our nation faces We few, we devoted, we band of brothers of the gun

We are the soldiers of the Hundred and First

Elite paratroopers we're ready to fight in distant places Courageous bold and we are the men of the one-oh-one

We fight til the battles won AIRBORNE!!

Whenever we are threatened just look up high A stick of gallant paratroopers drops from the sky

The bold type are words from the song of the 101st Airborne

The words in small type are my feeble attempt to honor the all the brave men of the 101st past, present, and future.

Oh. Okay! That's interesting! Were you scared the first time you jumped? Where did you train?

@ivoryannalise I'm old darlin' but not that old. I was a paratrooper in the Vietnam war. I made 28 combat jumps. That includes 7 HALO jumps which are high altitude low opening. You more or less skydive until you are close.
