Freedom

by bernardtwindwil

pursuit of freedom is cruel promises gold and jewels

leaves you in golden fetters your ego has been bettered

freedom without love is fleeting like a dove

selfishness adds confusion to the timeless illusion

one can never be free you worship on your knees

thye false God of gold into slavery has you sold

in your quest to be free you deny responsibility

this poem has a moral total freedom is immoral

@erofaer I loved being independent. I was blessed with paying my own rent and moving costs. I got to do my own laundry and buy the detergent and softener pay for it to be done. I got to contact the utility companies and start paying my own gas, electricity, and telephone. I got to purchase, store, cook, put away all my food. I got to do the dishes alone every day. Pay my own car insurance registration, gas, and maintenance. Get my drift? Then I had to work 60-80 hours a week in a job that wasn't even close to what I had gone to college for and had wanted to do. I have to admit that it felt good to be on my own, but, do not ever confuse that with freedom and liberty. It is independence with adult ethical responsibilities.

@bernardtwindwil For me freedom is independence, probably because I'm a teenager. I just want to be able to do a few things without asking my parents first. I really love this poem, it's the kind I'll probably go back to read later.

@erofaer It is because so many people pursue freedom in order to escape responsibility. There are others who pursue their own personal freedom without regard for the harm they do to others.
