Feeling depressed when you are < 30 is O.K.

At this age, your body is making monumental changes in your physiognomy and bodily chemistry. Your brain no longer operates the way you are used too. Your body is becoming amazing.

Depression is cured by joy

You are not going to die from normal depression. You are not alone in your depression. Of course, you think your depression is unique because it is. Each person has a different body.

Living is everything there is

Whatever you feel, think, smell, see, hear, or taste is life. It is your consummate experience. You get to see life from your own point of view. It's a privilege. Take it in large gulps.

Life doesn't get better or worse.

We are organisms of the present. If you survived that which you thought was unbearable, you made it through the horror. If you were not equipped to survive that horror, you are already dead.

Life is hard. Life is hard. Life is hard. Life is hard.

However, it is rewarding. Pain can be the sweetest taste of life. If you feel pain, it means that you have survived an unimaginable horror. Relish your victory. Life never gets easy.

Your life is a complicated journey

The writer, poets, and artists among you already realize that you have a story to tell. Tell it. Gather your friends, family, or strangers around a campfire. Tell a story.

Anger is depression's other face

If you are angry at someone, something, or at the somehow of your existence, never forget that it is better to be pissed off than pissed on. If you are angry, imagine how you look.

Accomplishments crowd out depression

Every night write a list of 5-10 achievements for tomorrow. Accomplish at least one of them. Depression is the deficit in what you think you should have achieved and what you have.

You are the greatest person who was ever you.

Blow your horn. You have the mandate to tell people how great you are. Just think about who you are for a minute. Ain't it great being you?

Have you placed yourself in isolation?

True? Look out your window. Life goes on. As you sulk, millions of your cells are being born, living, and dying . That means you are going through the cycle of life. Go to a petting zoo.

Thinking of self-harm?

It gets you a lot of attention for a few hours. Suicide is the ultimate act of narcissism and cowardice. Nobody will be harmed as much as the children and grandchildren you never had.

Eating and sleeping the right amount?

You eating habits and sleep patterns are a make or break proposition during your youth. When you sleep is when you dream. Eat clean healthy food. Do not poison yourself.

It hurts now but, it doesn't last forever.

Your weltschmerz is a heavy and painful burden. It goes away when you fall in love. I will post again on what true love feels like.

@erofaer I assume you are meaning by cuts, self-mutilation. Self-mutilation is serious and has a psychiatric diagnosis in ICDX X78. There are basically two manifestations of cutting. One is with the ideation and means to commit suicide. This needs to be handled on an emergency basis. Call 911. If it is for self-disgust and attention then you can handle it by assuring the person that they are of value. There is a cognitive dissonance in "cutting". There are numerous internet sites that explain that. You need tom have a deep and meaningful talk about their core beliefs and help them through the changes they could make to have more self-worth. A professional assessment would be best.

@bernardtwindwil You are truly wonderful. If you don't mind my asking, would you know what to tell someone who cuts?

@erofaer You are most welcome. The first time I had to call parents into my office to tell them that their child had died was one of the hardest tasks I ever had. If that were the last time it wouldn't be so horrific. I have had to do that numerous times. I can't count them because I don't want to think about them. I will continue to write things that I wish I could have said to all those children.

Thank you for this. Two of my best friends have depression andI had it once, I can say that those were the kind of things that helped me overcome it.

@chelsey It is important to remember that mild depression is a normal psycho/physiological event. If it goes beyond a certain level, there are people and medicines that can help. Thank you for the kudos.

I loved this. It is the most uplifting thing I have ever seen about depression. Depression is very isolating but I guess that is the point because once you realize that you are not alone it is hard to let Depression win over you again.

@bernardtwindwil thank you for a compliment about my pen name, since it's been with me for like forever. Me being only 17 makes me understand this generation and even if i'm among them, i still realize that depression is a huge issue. But one thing I learned is that life is all about how we see it.

@sydney @bob @kimberlyburke Thank you, On this site and on Wattpad I have read the posts of many adolescents who are morose, without hope, and talk of self-harm. It has me somewhat alarmed. I have seen entirely too many (one is too many) adolescents think they are alone in their depression and some take that next step that becomes irreversible. And it leaves old men like to cry.
