#2: Confessions we put on a shelf

I struggle to bite back on my emotions. My mouth fills with blood as my teeth grip down on my tongue instead.

Your hands grip the metal shelf in front of you.

Your hands grip the metal shelf in front of you. Your head hangs low between your shoulders.

My fingers find the cold metal distracting.

My fingers find the cold metal distracting. As I fidget and dance them closer to where you stand.

I stay quiet...

Silently encouraging you to continue.

Suddenly, your shoulders shudder.

Suddenly, your shoulders shudder. The slightest of vulnerability bubbles up to the surface.

For so long I have been relegated to the role of the unworthy... The involuntary admissions find me frozen in inaction.

I stay quiet.

You hate feeling weak.

The truth finally falls from your soft lips.

The truth finally falls from your soft lips ... And lands like a stone at my feet.

Your voice drips with self loathing.

Your voice drips with self loathing. And cracks with intense pain.

I stay quiet.

You turn from me, and lean heavy along the shelf.

I watch a tear slowly steam down your cheek.

I watch a tear slowly steam down your cheek. My treacherous hand reaches out and catches it before it reaches your chin.

My indignation extinguished.

My credibility destroyed.

I stay quiet.
