I am a string of constellations
who once thought better than to dot your sky.
I once draped over another’s bonfire,
was gazed at by a different type of amethyst and water,
amethyst that could only be dug out from deep within the earth
and came out looking more beautiful for it.
Now, I reside over a cliff.
A shadow over an empty, wretched cliff
where I lead strangers, who call themselves my rescuers,
into beds of thorns,
and missing bodies that were left behind just like I -
Who were brought there just like I.
And I’ve yet to determine who’s dangling who here.
