The Good in People

by AyenGrayce

"Pipper, will you go out with me?" I was silently reading a book in the corner most of the classroom when I heard Quentin ask me a question. I raised my eyes from the book Im reading to meet his

Quentin is one of the popular guys, and I am but a wallflower. I've always admired him from afar since I always thought he's out of my league, yet here he is, asking me out.

"Sure!" I said, with a big smile on my face. Then suddenly, the class errupted in laughter.

"As if anyone would go out with you, you fat ugly loser! It was just a bet between me and the guys if I could get you to say yes."

With eyes stinging from tears threatening to spill, I quickly grabbed my things. As I was walking home, I can't fight the tears from falling down my face.

It makes me wonder if they know that I'm human too, that I get hurt. How could somebody be so heartless to say those things? It's times like this when I wish I could just disappear...

It's christmas the day after tomorrow, and all I wish for is to be able to turn back time to when dad was still around...

He was dressed as santa and I couldn't be more amused as he imitated his 'ho ho ho' despite knowing he was the one underneath the red clothes.

I giggled as I pulled on his fake white beard and it snapped back to his face. My laughter echoed in our living room warmed by a fireplace and brightened by a glowing christmas tree.

I was sat on his left knee as he told me...

"Listen my angel, promise me that you'll always try to see the good in people, though some may be harder to love than others."

The next day I was minutes late for my first class. The halls were empty, I figured everyone was already in their respected classes.

"Pipper" It's Quentin. I just continued walking but he called out my name again. "Pipper, I'm sorry." I stopped on my tracks to listen to what he has to say.

"I'm really sorry for everything I've put you through. I never meant any insult I've thrown at you. I hope you can forgive me."

"Okay, I forgive you." I continued walking when I noticed he still wasn't moving. "Aren't you going to class?" "Class is almost over anyway, I think I'll just stay here for a while."

I thought he's right so I decided to join him. "Can I tell you something, Pipper?" "Alright."

"I never felt like my parents love me. They're always away, they won't even be home for christmas" I just listened to him, and after a few minutes he spoke...

"How could you forgive me just like that, Pipper?" "My dad always told me to see the good in people. You apologized, that's enough proof that there's something good in you."

"Thank you for understanding me, Pipper." "How 'bout you join me and my mom for christmas dinner tomorrow since your parents won't be around?" "That'd be great. I'll be there. Thanks, Pipper."

Dad, I get it now. Victims aren't the only ones with stories, sometimes the bullies too. Everyone does have kindness in their hearts, even those who are initially hard to love.
