The first promotional poem from my new narrative poetry collection titled Adrift in Starshine, coming later this summer!

Adrift in Starshine: Homebound

Space

So, I guess this is where I now reside

In space and time I now abide

Lies and countless tries while stumbling in the dark

Abyss of nothingness holds the greatest lie without a spark

Of hope, hope is a word barely uttered these days

I write while on a vessel homebound from the ways

My computer routed me to in the long reach from planet earth

Far forward to a planet with little if any mirth

In space not a star is clearly seen

Perceived as in the earthen night air when clean

Since out here in the space between then and not yet

Stars are but little bulbs of burning gas to meet, oh many have I now met

Ya, cause now I’m just...

Homebound, homebound

I can't believe I’m finally homebound, time I hit the ground

They said that when I reach the exosphere I’m sure to hear a sound

One like Zion heralding with a boom

A shout of joy to proclaim freedom from gloom

The planet I was on, eb9509

Was wondrously dreadful for me

Beautiful yet horrid

Skies of fire and seas of rainbow water

Reminding me of an old spiritual song

Telling of Light’s great shine

Setting man free

Oh but what made me florid

The lack of any son or daughter

A desolate, nil throng

(See, I was a man tasked with a mission...

Report what you find, seek out alien life

Yet whether that life were blue, gold, green, grey, or white, I made no omission

Stating simply that this sojourn proved worthless strife)

So here I am now

Homebound, in ambient sound

As the boosters hit this craft into light space

Hyper speed is the name of this race

For now I'm...

Homebound, homebound

I can't believe I’m finally homebound, time I hit the ground

They said that when I reach the exosphere I’m sure to hear a sound

One like Zion heralding with a boom

A shout of joy to proclaim freedom from gloom
