End Of Part 1: Ailey could see a glint of sadness in Toby's eyes when she said bye to him.
Months had passed and Ailey could see that Toby was getting shy and uncomfortable around her.
She became upset, thinking she had done something. She didn’t want to hurt him.
She began avoiding him, so he didn’t have to feel lonely when they were together. She soon became depressed and stopped going to school altogether.
One day, Toby came. He had been really concerned about her, and constantly worried. Ailey was up in her room, under her sheets.
She hadn’t heard Toby come in. He sat down and she peered through a hole in the sheets.
“Toby?” “Ailey!! What happened to you? Are you okay? Did I do something? What’s wrong? Why aren’t you going to school? Why did-” “Wait.... what? You were worried about me? I thought you were uncomfortable around me... I thought I hurt you. I didn’t want to hurt you more.”
“Ailey, you never hurt me!! Of course, I was worried! Are you crazy? You're my best friend!” “But then why were you shy and uncomfortable...?”
“Because Ailey, I really, really, really like you.” Ailey thought about what he said. The gazing, the body language, the shyness. It made sense. A lot of sense. And at that moment, Ailey realized something else. Something important.
“I really like you too, Toby.” Toby blushed and smiled.
