Her lips were so close to his own now! He knew it was it -- the moment he has been waiting for all this time. Action had to be taken now.
Mustering all his force and courage, he painfully advance his head toward hers.
He was just a few centimeters from her! Unfortunately she was also slightly and slowly withdrawing her head, but he was faster, and he finally catched up to her.
He told me the story of how he kissed her countless times. At one point I even had to politely tell him that I already knew the story and that he didn't have to repeat it to me again.
I think it was at this exact moment of his life, when his lips made contact with her lips, that he somewhat became an idealist.
For sure, he had already decided a long time before what he wanted to do with his life, but from this moment on he knew not only what he wanted his job to be, but also what he wanted to accomplish.
He knew it was simply a mean to achieve something greater.
I think the feeling of joy that overcame his heart at this moment left him with a big, lasting impression.
I had often seen him before when he was still just an average employee at the Foreign affairs, and he was already a nice person, but when I saw him again when I got to be his aide,
I knew something had changed in him.
He wasn't exaclty transformed, but before that, he was simply nice and good at small talking, but now I could feel his small talking was sincere.
He found it pleasant to be part of the world, and that set him apart from his old self. Before that he was just there and he did what he had to do without complaining.
After that, even when he was clad in his fancy suit and stuck with a serious look, he was surrounded by some sort of aura of joyful positivity.
I don't think he was always mindlessly happy though, he had his share of stress and sometimes, he had to work hard, but at that point, he understood something that us other simple beings didn't.
Yet I'm sure most of us had a similar experience at least once, I'm even sure he himself had countless similar experiences in the past, but this time was different,
planets must have been correctly aligned or something. And years later, that saved us all from what may or may not have been a disaster.
He was THE man for the situation. No one else could have save the day like he did. Just thinking about what could have happened if he hadn't stepped in makes me shiver.
What we call today "a curious decade" could have been "the worst decade ever". Fortunately, he did step in, and he secured a better world for the day, and for generations to come.
