I come to this website quite frequently to read things, you'd think I would have made an account by now.
I have spent a lot of time on /nosleep and /letsnotmeet but after reading the guidelines for posting,
I wasn't really sure what the appropriate category would be for this so here it goes at /creepyencounters.
I am a 20 year old female that lives alone on the 4th floor of an apartment building.
I live in a crappy area but in the "quieter" more "nicer" side of the city but have always felt safe where I am even though I am naturally paranoid about everything.
This will probably sound pretty ridiculous but I fell asleep yesterday morning at 11am and after not being able to fall asleep, once I finally did I made sure I was going to sleep as much as I could.
The reason for this being I didn't have work, and I was going to try and quit smoking and start that by sleeping as much as possible. I feel like that's the best way to start next to being sick.
Anyway, fast forward to about 3 and a half hours ago and I'm waking up to use the bathroom.
Normally I'll have the stove light on in the kitchen but I've been worried about the electric bill so I've been unplugging and turning everything off.
Anyway my bathroom is directly across from my bedroom separated by several feet but very close and I notice there's a light shining the way for me but it's my apartment door wide open,
and my kitchen light is on.
I had my phone in my hand which is basically the size of a small tablet with a really hard case so I go to close my door and start searching my apartment with that (probably should have grabbed
a knife, but for some reason I was more confused than scared) and found nothing. Nothing was stolen or moved around that I could tell.
I chose not to call the police because I didn't want to make a scene or seem crazy, and my apartment is a mess. The weird part to me is that the door was still locked but it was wide open.
I also have a cat, I woke up with her kneading a blanket next to me and was relieved to know she did not escape.
I 'adopted' her from a family I had previously rented a room from and she was an outdoor cat but no longer is so needless to say I'm very proud and happy that she stayed with me here and did
not get out. Kind of sucks she doesn't speak human and can't tell me what the hell happened.
Investing in a good deadbolt lock as soon as the stores open and I've got every light on in my house now (f*ck the electricity bill) but I still feel very uneasy and creeped out.
Thanks to whoever is reading for listening to my vent, and feel free to share similar stories or advice.
UPDATE: I told my landlord about what happened this morning and that I could pay for and install the lock myself but just letting her know, and she said she'd be by around noon.
Finally around 4 o clock she got here with her daughter who I've never met,
she was very sweet but the whole ordeal with installing a new lock and a deadbolt took an excruciating 2 and a half hours of me just watching these
two women struggle IMMENSELY WITH THIS LOCK HOLY FUCK I am so aggravated.
I didn't want to butt in or seem rude and every time I kept trying to help it seemed like I was offending them so I just watched in horror while my landlord let her daughter do most of the work.
I work as a stage hand and am currently doing demolition so watching a girl 10 years older than me struggle with a ratchet screwdriver was so painful I think I might just drink myself
to death tonight. Phew.
Also the deadbolt was installed incorrectly and won't lock even though she said it was all set, I didn't check until after they left.
So done with the whole thing I'm just gonna wait until tomorrow so if anyone wants to come steal my shit or murder me please feel free. Thanks everyone for the input.
