After about 9 months, I finally filled out a 2 weeks notice form today. It's for many reasons, but it's a lot more bittersweet than I thought it would be.
While I'm definitely not going to miss the rushes, customers not bothering to read the movie times and menus, getting angry about things I can't control, screaming "this is robbery!
" about the concessions prices (I must've gotten that at least a half dozen times when I worked closing concessions on Sunday),
being *astonished* that there's crowds and long lines when it rains even though it's a beach town, and other things, I'm definitely going to miss my coworkers.
Breaking the news to them today was really tough and it'll only get tougher when I have to tell the people who didn't work today over the next 2 weeks.
Even the closing manager and supervisor today were sad, which really made me feel bad.
However, corporate has been contributing to the "sweet" part of bittersweet. For those who haven't been keeping up with the posts I've made here, I work for that three-letter-named company.
I need to thank /u/Throwaway-05-2017 for warning me about their incredibly stupid expanded hot foods menu.
A manager from a different theater came in today to make all the new hot foods for us to sample (just off the top of my head: Mini Cheeseburgers, a ton of toppings to add to our hot dogs,
pretzel bites, GIANT pretzels to replace our current ones, Chicken and Waffle sandwiches, flatbreads, and pre-popped flavored popcorn.
This is on top of chicken tenders, fries, mozzarella sticks, and pizza that we have now), and honestly, I don't know if I would have lasted much longer having to work with all that stuff anyway.
Getting paid minimum wage to not only work box office, ushering, and podium, but also to learn fast food on top of traditional concessions? No thanks.
/u/Throwaway-05-2017 couldn't have been more accurate when he said that corporate turned Concessions into a TGI Friday's.
Honestly, none of it was even that good except for the pretzel bites imo. I feel so bad for my coworkers, having to deal with all that.
And this is only the tip of the iceberg of corporate's horrible ideas.
Only 2 weeks left of my life as a movie theater worker. Gonna try and make the most of it, as well as my last days with my coworkers. My last day will probably be even more bittersweet.
