The Ones Without Faces (Original poem)

by reythatsgay

A little brown-eyed girlShe was born and raisedBy the east coast watersAnd she spent her daysOn the internetTrying to forgetThat she wasn’t one to amazeShe would plant her heartIn

the parking lotBreak the asphalt downJust to find a spotWhere she could put that seedFree from hate and greedRight where the sun was hotBut the ones without facesThey snatched it awayWith

their plastic spoonsThey forced it to decayAnd the young girl criedAnd from that dayShe swore she’d try hard to be okayJust a teenage girlOnly seventeenShe wasn’t left or rightShe

was in-betweenShe just stood on the lineWouldn’t let them defineWhat she couldn’t beShe would plant her heart‘Neath the lighted treesStand guard by its sideSo

it wouldn’t freezeShe’d stay awake all nightUntil the morning lightSo she’d remember to breatheBut the ones without facesThey snatched it awayWith their shouted wordsThey forced it

to decayAnd the young girl criedAnd from that dayShe swore she’d try hard to be okayJust a dead-eyed girlShe wears a mask every dayAnd she fears she’ll never be okay
