The old reddit switcheroo

Title caught your eye, huh? You could not resist taking a gander.

You wonder what this is all about- this is a subreddit made mostly of twists and switcheroos after all, another one wouldn't be something to advertise.

Even if the post seems meta, it has to have a scary twist in the end, you assume, and I wouldn't call such an assumption wrong.

After all, I advertised a twist at the title, and though I am certainly not above false advertising, this story would be removed if it wasn't , in some form, scary.

Meta as it may be in this case, a switcheroo is nothing new here, nothing unexpected.

You may wonder more about whether this twist will be good. Or at least, whether it is an old twist written sufficiently well to be thrilling again.

Maybe it will be brilliant, something you won't expect, or even something sad, giving you an emotional high due to somewhat creepy tragedy that made your stomach drop.

Or maybe it will be stupid, but still, given that you read it on this subreddit, mercifully short.Maybe it is yet another "look/don't look behind you".

Maybe yet another coded plea for help, or a hidden warning.

Cliche and trite things you have seen so many times that you doubt could be done again anymore, at least, not in a satisfying or unique way.

Maybe someone could still do them well, but still, you have to admit, they are the first things that come to mind when someone uses the words "cliche internet horror story".

I understand your desires and concerns- a good story is what one seeks from a subreddit called shortscarystories, after all.

But I have to be honest, if unpleasant, what matters to me the most is not whether you liked this post or not, even though I'd still earn some pleasure from your enjoyment of it.

No, what matters to me, what I find extremely more crucial than even validation of my talent as an author,

is the fact that you spent the previous short amount of time while concentrated intently on the screen, distracted.

In other words, the fact that for the short time it took you to read this, you didn't notice anything that happened in your room.
