It seems like everyone's talking about Stranger Danger these days.
But the best advice I've ever heard?
Tell your kids that if they're ever lost in a public place, like the mall, and they can't find a police officer, they should look for a mom with kids, and ask her for help.
I love that idea.
Finally, some positive, concrete advice, instead of all the negatives: don't talk to strangers, don't let anyone touch you, don't, don't, don't!
Sometimes kiddos just need to hear that there really are people out there that they can trust. Not everyone's a monster.
As a single woman with young children, we all need a little help sometimes, right?
I mean, come on, with this crazy bunch, just the thought of a mall makes me tired!
I have enough trouble getting the kids out of their room, and then I have to put them into some decent clothes and brush their hair.
God forbid I forget to feed them before we leave, or it'll be endless begging for giant pretzels and fro-yo.
And once we're finally at the mall (hallelujah!), I have to constantly threaten them, just to get them to act normal.
But oh lord, all my frustrations evaporate when I'm finally walking hand-in-hand with the children, past all those stores full of families whose kids are running wild,
just itching to wander off and get lost. That's when all my effort transforms into beautiful, golden possibility.
It makes everything worth it if I can bring home another one.
