It was opening night of Straight Outta Compton. We were completely filled - our 7:30, 8:15, 9:15, 10:15, and 11:00 PM showings were COMPLETELY full.
Including our VIP suite (the top box with comfy seats that people can rent for birthday parties and such).
Anyway, so it was about midnight, and we were just starting to close concessions, when I heard my manager over my walkie say that about 20 people were coming out of the 11:00 theatre,
complaining about god knows what. I'm still fairly new, so I just kinda tagged behind my co-workers, not really wanting to be too involved but still wanting to help if there was a problem.
As it turns out, there was a fist fight. IN THE VIP SUITE. Like full on, punching and slamming against the walls.
I poked my head inside the movie theatre to see how everyone else was fairing, and it was complete and utter chaos.
People were standing up and shouting (mostly at me and my co-workers), complaining, running around the theatre, and just being awful in general.
We were also incredibly understaffed, so we didn't even finish closing two hours later then normal.
Long story short the cops showed up, I handed out more free movie passes then I even knew we had, and for once I am so glad Im not a manager.
Me along with my co-workers stood in a little huddle after they had left, none of us wanted to go out in the parking lot - they were still bitching at each other outside,
and we're just a bunch of young teenagers who barely even have our driver's licenses. After two more cop cars showed up we worked up the nerve to go to our cars.
The best part about all of this is I get the same shift for the rest of the week! Yay.
