In speech we reach for what we know But what we know is yet to grow

Silence

by analogicalapathy

In speech we reach for what we know

But what we know is yet to grow

Our progresses are sadly slow

And so, a lack of sound I sew

For silence reigns oh-so supreme

More power than the loudest scream

Command, control, compel our minds

In contexts of all different kinds

In questioning, such silence finds

That curiosity it binds

Dictates, directs and dominates

That which the mind then predicates

And in a conversation too

You’d be surprised what they’ll tell you

If you don’t speak, pretend you’re meek

Then slowly they, their secrets, leak

Or when, with you others do screw

It is hardly a notion new

That wreckage is easy to wreak

If when they try, you deign not speak

Silence is power so profound

All other sounds are, by it, bound

It was there before it we found

And it will always be around
