To the folks that may not know yet, I will be going to Manila, Philippines for medical school. It may have come to your surprise, it did to me too.
4 years ago, I started my time at UC Berkeley with a mindset of going to a medical school within the country by 2017.
But as years went by new ideas, interests, and events came about that shaped my ultimate decision to study medicine there.
Some might criticize my decision to study in the “less developed institution” than in the US, but screw them critics.
I chose to study in the Philippines because I can grow the most as a person from this experience, and I can finally get to give back to my birth country.
Most importantly, I have come to embrace the adventure that comes with it. Being born there and living in the U.S. for over 10 years gave me a better sense of the world I live in.
It’s not where I study that determines the course of my career, it’s how I draw from my knowledge and experiences and use them to take where I want my career to be.
