So I have been working at regal for at least 6 months and this is the probably the funniest thing that's happened to me.
It was pretty quiet behind concessions in between the movies. I was occupying the time by restocking and cleaning up when a man comes to the counter and asks for a cup of ice. Just ice. no drink.
I show him the courtesy cup (which is the only cup we can give out for free) and he says no I need a bigger cup.
I explain to him that he has to pay for those and show him the sizes and he kinda goes "oh". He looks at all his options, and then at me, and finally says, "Well, you see, the thing is...
" He sticks his hand in his pocket. " The thing is, is that I've got this chunk of meat...." he trails off as he pulls a large chunk of raw meat out of his jacket pocket and shows it to me.
I immediately start laughing, and he chuckles a bit too at the strangeness of the situation.
I tell him that I'm about to hook him the hell up while grabbing our drink carrying bags and filling it with ice so he has a nice little carrying cooler.
While both of us are still laughing I hand him the bag of ice and he chuckles and thanks me kindly.
I went around that whole day telling the story of Meat Man and his "chunk" of meat. I told it so much that managers were passing me in the hallways saying "I heard about The Meat Man!"
A few days later I was working concessions when I looked across the lobby and locked eyes with someone vaguely familiar. Yes, It was The Meat Man.
In a second, he remembered me too, and waved cheerfully. Something about sharing such a weird moment with someone you would have never known before is really so strange.
Everyone behind concessions stopped to watch as the legend, the myth, The Meat Man, walked by waving to me.
I have never been more proud of where I work.
