I watch her face start glowing slowly as the moon rises from behind the buildings and its light pours on her through the window.
I sit on the other side of the bed, watching her get asleep with a tired look in her eyes.
I examine her now serene face and witness the marvelous moment she chuckles in her sleep and her precious rose-red lips draw a beautiful smile.
I stand in awe for a few seconds until, suddenly, she whispers my name. "Dan... Dan... kiss me" she says as her smile grows wider. I'm shocked. I sit next to her, unable to move.
Then, with a much more calm voice than what I was expecting, I answer:
"I would, darling. If only... if only I hadn't drunk that night before driving back home just a year ago, I would.
" And with that I stand up, look back at her pretty smile one last time, and vanish.
