Let me preface this by saying that I've never been a fan of 3D movies.
Even before I worked at a movie theater, I thought it was a stupid, meaningless gimmick that made good movies harder to sit through and gave bad movies an excuse to be "innovative".
However, it's still around after coming to pretty much every movie theater around the late 2000's so I guess there's enough people that enjoy it.
Now that I work at a movie theater, I hate 3D even more, but now it's because of the other people that hate it.
I of course understand why they do, but how grown ass adults have handled and reacted about our 3D showings is just pathetic.
I was working box office yesterday morning, when we had 3D showtimes for both Beauty and the Beast and Boss Baby. We have 3 TVs in our box office that display our times.
The first TV on the left starts with our IMAX movie showtimes, and then the 3D showtimes are below that,
because the movies are all in alphabetical order and "3D" is placed before the movie title. We also separate 2D showtimes from 3D showtimes on our website. So either way, it's impossible to miss.
Or at least, I thought it was impossible to miss. I had 3 different parents come up to me yesterday, asking for tickets to BatB or BB at 1 PM/3:30 PM (respectively).
Now, whenever they don't mention 3D like that, I always make sure to say "Now, that movie's gonna be in 3D, is that gonna be alright with you?
" in case they somehow missed it on the TV or when they looked it up online. A lot of the time, they just shrug and say yeah because they knew it was in 3D and just forgot to mention it.
These people yesterday though...holy crap. You'd think I just insulted their taste in movies or something (well, I mean, some of them were going to see Boss Baby...).
They all exploded with "Are you KIDDING me?!? Ugh, I HATE 3D!!!! Why would you do that?!?
" I don't fucking know, I don't set the damn showtimes!
They, of course, all begrudgingly went to see the movies anyway, but not before screaming about how outrageous the prices are, including a "well I hope you enjoy my money,
cause this is the last time we're coming to this outrageously priced place!" Yes m'am, I sure will enjoy the $20 you just bitched about spending when I get my $8.50/hour paycheck.
It's not like all that money is going to Fox so they can be justified in making more pandering garbage movies that you can continue to go to even after grumbling about how expensive it is.
Like goddamn, I get not liking 3D, I hate it myself. So if it's that much of a deal breaker, learn to read and plan your day around the clearly posted 2D showtimes!
Also, before I go, an update on my last post here: reddit.
com/r/TalesFromTheTheatre/comments/63chqj/im_gonna_go_to_a_movie_while_its_raining_and_then/ (I apologize for linking it like that,
but for some reason my computer's being stupid about linking lately). Apparently, the GM of my theater said we were the busiest location of our chain in America that day.
Oh how I'd love to inform those customers that bitched us out for being busy of that fact.
