I found you on the sex offenders list

I had a friend, who we'll call Jeremy. I have known Jeremy since I was 5 and we also went to the same high school together.

Me and Jeremy were best friends in primary school and we drifted during year 8 of high school.

I don't know why we drifted we fell apart, I think it was mainly due to the difference in friendship groups. However at the start of year 11 Jeremy and I were in English together.

It was a happy time and we exchanged pleasantries and it was like reconnecting with a best friend after not seeing them after a day.

We discussed our new lives and how our families were, his mother had became ill all of last year and I apologised for not being there for him,

he forgave me and explained it wasn't my fault and she is doing so much better now, I was pleased, I told him about my mother remarrying and he was happy for me.

Eventually we decided it would be a really good idea to have study sessions together and that we did.

He would come over to mine every Tuesday and I would go over to his every Friday and it worked out marvellously, we even ended up being boy friend and girlfriend for the entirety of year 11.

When college came around I decided against this and chose an apprenticeship however he stuck with the college plan, it minimised the times we spent together however we worked through it,

this is where things became a little off putting.

Three months of our "out of school life" in and I noticed that Jeremy had changed, he had big bags under his eyes and his personality was drab, he became agitated and very nervous,

anxious very quickly and I didn't understand why, whenever I asked he always told me "it's just college" and that was the end of that.

Little did I know the truth behind the lies he was telling me.

After 7 months and countless arguments of me persisting the question of "are you doing drugs" we ended up splitting up and we never spoke nor did we see each other again.

My heart had given up way before our breaking point so I didn't cry, I wasn't even hurt.

3 years along, bringing us to now I came across a link to the sex offenders list and I got a little curious and as they say curiosity kills the cat, I searched my area code and there was his name.

I clicked on it not wanting to believe it was really him but there he was. The story written was this

Jeremy Mainz, 20

Ages 17-18 he trapped, tortured and sexually assaulted 15 year old Abby Crossley and was finally caught when the gruesome smell of her rotting dead body was discovered by neighbours.

Absolutely sickened me and broke my heart.

Jeremy is in prison for life and will never come out to breathe the air again.
