So, this just happened to me today. For context, I'm a female in my early twenties. I was walking to the drug store about a block and a half from my house to pick up a few things.
Given that it was not super late at night, I decided to just go alone instead of asking one of my friends to go with me.
As I was standing at the crosswalk across from the drug store, I watched as a man began to cross the street going perpendicular to me (he was continuing down the side of the road I was on,
I was crossing the street). Suddenly, he turned around, noticed me, and crossed back to stand behind me. I thought that was pretty odd, but continued to the store anyway.
To describe this guy, he appeared to be about sixty, with a jean jacket and a bandana, under which he had straw-like blonde hair.
He had a fairly cheap old cell phone, and was wearing tight jeans, sneakers, and had some sort of chain poking out of his pocket (like the kind which might be attached to a wallet).
As I crossed the parking lot, I heard this man begin to walk faster behind me, now talking to someone on his phone.
I couldn't make out what he was saying, but at one point he enunciated one word a lot more clearly than the others,
as if he really needed the person he was talking to to understand that word specifically.
Once I got into the store, I ducked into the back and asked the salesperson a few questions, hoping that this man would just buy what he needed to and leave.
After asking all of the useless questions I could think of, I pretended to be busy reading the ingredients in shampoo really closely.
This entire time, the man stood in the magazine section and stared at my reflection in the front window.
After a half hour of this, I went up to one of the girls around my age who was in the store (I live in a college town, so there are a lot of twenty-somethings around).
I told this girl what was going on and asked if I could stand with her and her friends for a while until this guy (who was now in the next aisle over) went away.
Luckily, these girls said yes, and I hung out with them for a while.
Eventually, they ended up driving me home so that this guy didn't follow me.
I know that everything could have been innocent, I just got a very creepy vibe and figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
