It was my son's birthday. Now in our house we let the kids pick birthday gifts. So, we were at wal-mart in the toys aisles. He was happy go lucky. Big eyes and carefully choosing his loot.
An elderly kind-looking woman was watching my kids. After a few minutes she remarked on how beautiful and well-behaved they are. Stupid me said thank you and flashed a proud smile.
Continued on with gift picking. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed that she was following us to every toy aisle. Mentally gave her the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe she lived far from her grandkids and missed them. Maybe she was a retired school teacher. I told my husband anyway because I'm always on alert.
After he picks the gifts we decided to split up. I'd be taking the birthday boy to pick out his cake. Hubby would take our daughter to search for other things. Gonna meet back in the middle.
Little did we know creepy granny was listening the whole time.
Now I probably don't look intimidating. 5'3, kinda heavy, hair obscene colors. Hubby is 6'2, broad shouldered, Marine.
Lo and behold, as were browsing cakes creepy granny mosies on over from frozen foods. Opposite end from the toys. Shorter way to get to the bakery.
Cake is picked and handed off to the bakery lady to add his name and whatnot. Little guy munching a free cookie oblivious to anything.
Since the store wasn't packed I had left the cart maybe three feet away. I'm standing with my son on the right of me watching the baker. Kind of in the little nook that is their doorway.
Creepy lady is now between me and my cart idly pushing the single pieces of baked good around glancing at my son every few seconds. A few mere inches from me. I'd hazard a guess at 3-4.
Senses heightened I kept one hand on him and turned nonchalantly to put more of me in harms way. It seemed like she wanted to snatch an grab quick. The bakery section is near the entrance.
We get the cake. Speak our thanks and grab the cart. Creepy granny high-tails it back to frozen foods.
In my head I've been going over what to do now. I placed him on the cart where he can hold the handle bar and lean against me while my arms are around him.
He enjoys the ride and I high-tail it to where we were meeting my husband. The ghostly look on my face says it all. I relate to him what just happened.
Make it through check out just fine. Heading to the doors. Just as we breathe a sigh of relief there she is again! This time not alone.
There is this HUGE guy with her that hadn't been seen this entire time. I'll never forget the look on her face as our eyes connected one last time.
It was a look of pure hatred, as if I had snatched her prize of prizes from her grasp. Chills down my spine. Haven't seen them since and this was months ago.
Thank you for letting me write this out. Hands are shaky just typing it and seeing it play in my head again. Sorry for any mistakes.
