First, a beam of light would engulf the person. Afterwards, their body would begin to disintegrate - maybe it was closer to fade - and then they would, like the beam itself, vanish.
They always looked so calm.
People were scared; some even began reporting sightings of what were eventually termed ETAs (extraterrestrial anomalies); large,
almost silver disks that would shimmer before quickly disappearing.
The military was soon involved. They'd found a way to destroy these objects, and with it the abductions.
Two weeks after the abductions stopped, scientists reported sightings of a meteorite the size of Earth itself having a trajectory path that would send it into us.
We were given 72 hours to say good bye.
And now, as I sit here watching the ball in the sky grow larger and larger, I can't help but realize they weren't abducting us, they were trying to save us.
