"All personnel are to- evacu- to- bzzzzt"
I was sprinting to the opening the instant the power went out.
There was no need for announcements or the warning horn - here, when anything out of the ordinary happened, nobody stuck around long enough to find out why.
Beside me, my colleagues were likewise rushing to the exit. Doors were being slammed open everywhere in the facility. I could only pray that the doors meant to stay closed remained so.
No such luck. The instant the door opened, we saw a pillar of fire running across the compound, torching everything in sight. A powerful beast was tearing into armed personnel left and right.
We doubled back, and further into the facility, despite the implications.
"In here, quick!"
We rushed into a dingy cubicle, sixteen people hidden in a nodule somewhere in hell. Silence seemed to take impossibly long to come, but it did.
There was enough food to last us for several days, if we rationed them properly.
A week later, or so it seemed, Mike pushed open the door, ever so slightly, and instantly there was a loud *crack*. Women screamed, and someone switched on our emergency torch.
Standing before us was a statue covered in shit and blood. It was, perhaps, the most well known of all the specimens in this forsaken facility, and it was blocking the entrance.
Mike's broken neck lay at its feet. Nothing much was known about it - every single file containing information pertaining to it was marked [Redacted].
"Okay," I slowly said. "Nobody, and I mean *nobody*, fucking blink."
Well, except for the torch.
