In a perfect world, Yoongi would be happier. His job wouldn’t suck, which made him unhappy; he wouldn’t be basically friendless, which made him unhappy; and he wouldn’t be
in a universe with fuckin’ Soulmates, which made him unhappy.
But the world wasn’t perfect, and Yoongi wasn’t happy.
By age sixteen, matching tattoos, found etched into the skin on both wrists, were supposed to reveal the name of one’s Soulmate. Yoongi was twenty-five,
past the ‘Age of Inscription,’ and had no name on the inside of his wrists.
Everyone that talked to Yoongi suggested he contact the Global Soulmate Bureau to discuss his options: he could go to a ‘Sanctuary’—where people lived who had been abandoned by
their Soulmates or who had outlived them—and maybe discover love there; he could visit a ‘Lost and Found’—where ‘Anomalies,’ or people waiting for their Inscriptions to take place,
lived—and do the same thing (The Bureau always suggested this option to people with cases like Yoongi’s.
); or he could sleep around like he didn’t care about not having a Soulmate right now with the few Anomalies that didn’t care either (This option wasn’t usually suggested by the Bureau,
but Yoongi knew it had been done.).
