Free verse. With every sunrise that comes around, my heart shatters once more...

Solo | Sunrise

Solo | This free verse piece is part of 'Solo,' a collection of nine poems dedicated to the concept of isolation, solitude and individuality.

Solo | Sunrise

With every sunrise that comes around,

With every sunrise that comes around, my heart shatters once more.

And the only thing that tethers me to this world

And the only thing that tethers me to this world is the sight of you waiting at my door.

Your eyes, your warmth, they supply me

Your eyes, your warmth, they supply me with all the adoration I will ever need.

Your presence causes my laughter to bubble forth

Your presence causes my laughter to bubble forth like a fragile green sapling from the seed.

When everyone, whether by choice or not, leaves me

When everyone, whether by choice or not, leaves me or forgets my existence, I rarely care.

But when you go and take a while to return,

But when you go and take a while to return, my feet move fast and my eyes search everywhere.

To think that I am frightened to love,

To think that I am frightened to love, for love has betrayed me in the past.

To think that innocence and utter compliance

To think that innocence and utter compliance has made this fear last.

To think that you, who tore down my walls,

To think that you, who tore down my walls, could distract me from this fear

and convince me that life is worth all its sadness

and convince me that life is worth all its sadness for the joy of you being here.

So with every sunrise that comes around,

So with every sunrise that comes around, my heart tries its best to beat.

So with every sunrise that comes around, my heart tries its best to beat. For if I had surrendered early on,

So with every sunrise that comes around, my heart tries its best to beat. For if I had surrendered early on, We would not have had the chance to meet.

END
