Today in culinary class was like any other. The clowns cracking their jokes like a chef cracks an egg. Our chef instructor started the lecture. The room went silent.
The only thing we could hear other than the lecture was our own breathing. Today we were learning to saute. We were to make risotto but our garnish needed to be sauteed.
I picked mushrooms for mine. Their earthiness was a perfect compliment to the creamy starchiness of the risotto. Everything was going good.....until the mushrooms hit the pan.
They landed to roughly. Oh dear...start again said the chef....you must be soft with them as they are tender. "Yes Chef" was my only response.
