once, i met a girl <3

once, i met a girl

once, i met a girl,

and she opened up her palm for me, and handed me, her love.

and she

gave me the brightest stars i'd ever seen,

and made all the ones in my sky seem dull.

the galaxies in my sky blended into whirlpools of her.

her moonlight turned our truths into liquid, and we drank from each other's cup.

when she looked at me, flowers grew in my chest.

my world learned to revolve around her smile,

and the whole universe concentrated on just us.

once, i met a girl,

and she opened up her palm for me, and handed me, her love.

but she left.

and with her,

she took the brightest stars i'd ever seen,

and the ones in my sky stayed dull.

she took my galaxies with her.

she took her moonlight and my truths, and i can still taste them on my lips.

when she left, she stepped on the flowers.

with her smile gone, my earth refuses to spin.

she left me, and so did the damn universe.

once, i met a girl,

and she opened up her palm for me, and handed me, her love.

but this time,

i didn't want it.

because it made me the saddest i've ever been.

but, then i met another girl,

and she opened up her palm for me, to take and held my hand.

and she told me to look up at the sky.

and so i did.

i looked up at the sky, and i noticed

the brightest stars i'd ever seen - and how i had been wrong. she hadn't taken them with her, because they hadn't been hers to take. they didn't belong to her, they belonged to the sky. just like i didn't belong to her, i belonged to myself.

and how the moon knows what it means to be human - uncertain. alone. created by imperfections alone.

i looked up at the sky, and i felt the universe come to life around me.

i met another girl,

who showed me that humans are the same. that i am the same.

who told me to always remember my beauty and self-worth.

who made me realize that,

my freckles are constellations in the sky,

and that there are galaxies in my eyes.

and that my bones are made from the same dust that floats around space.

i met another girl, who made the flowers grow back as gardens.

and she made me realize that,

if the flowers in my ribs could grow back into gardens,

even after they had been trampled in the leaving,

then so would i.

and suddenly, nothing seemed so bad anymore.

i have decided that i am going to be okay.

that i am okay.

and for once in my life,

that is enough. - e
