Chronic illness fight.

by amyleepassmore

Fighting a chronic illness, means I'm constantly fighting life, My illness ripping through everything, because it has a knife.

Slashing through, Everything I do, My illness rots my core, Breaking through the few things that seem right.

What I would give, To not struggle through life, And fight myself everyday.

I would honestly rather die, So it would all go away.

I was 60 yrs old when I came down with an chronic neuro-muscular disease that wasted away my trunk core muscle, including my heart, and my upper arms and thighs. It was devastating and depressing. I understand what you are saying and feeling. You wrote a beautifully worded description of the process of dealing with a chronic disease. I had to learn to walk again, to get out of bed, bathe and feed myself. I would not have described it as you did. It would have been heavily laced with profanity. My drop dead date was supposed to be five years from my diagnosis. That was seven years ago. So I think of it as taking a freebie. Every morning I awaken it is one more day of immortality. You have a great gift to give. Humanity will be the lesser without you. Let the pain be a sacrifice you make on the altar of humanity. I need your comradeship. Great poem, by the way.
