Holy Obnoxious Drunks

Boondocks Delirium

Occasionally in the glow

Of campfire light,

When the thaw has set in

A couple of weeks,

And the New England ponds

Have gone from freezing to cold,

People start stirring again

Like beetles emerging

To warm their backs

For the first time all year.

We get together and say

“Damn its been cold”,

And proceed with campfire vigil

And thirty packs of beer.

We sit around and say words

Like “wicked” and “fuck”

Between every other word like

Holy obnoxious drunks

It’s been ten years since high school

But we’re all still here

All looking like lost children

In helpless repose

“I’m going to burn down this town

For the fourth of July”, said Maha

With a cold seriousness

That made us laugh and whoop

Because we all seemed to possess,

In our vast wide-eyed desertion

The idea that we just didn’t care
