What does one do when the pain they feel never leaves. Like an old friend. Coming and going as the seasons pass. Never a good friend, no, just an old friend. This friend brings lessons, ridicule and judgement. Oh the judgement. ‘Be better’ ‘Be better’ ‘Be fucking better!’ It screams. All while simultaneously never allowing you to be better. In quick sand your stuck. The duvet covers holding you down like a Boulder. So trapped yet so safe. Feeling like nothing can hurt you, while you unknowingly sink deeper and deeper into the sand. You forget what it’s like to see the real world. At first you struggle but eventually you give into the motion of drowning. It’s a familiar feeling. The funny thing about finally escaping that old friend is that they will always find their way back into your life. Uninvited, never enticed and never welcome. your old friend burst in and you watch as it destroys your home. First it accidentally breaks a plate then the next thing you know your home is in shambles. No more analogies no more comparisons. You hate yourself and you know you shouldn’t. What did you do wrong. But that doesn’t stop the hate from spreading. But that’s another friend for another day. For today I lay under the duvet. And hope soon I will see a better day.
