We had gotten into a petty argument over something I should have let go of a long time ago. He paused \"okay,\" and he walked off, exiting the grocery store doors. I was pissed, but I loved him. I knew we would make up once we arrived home. I stood in the grocery store for a quick minute, inhaling and exhaling, until I decided to let go of the argument and let the gods guide me to end this argument. I walked out of the grocery store, my passion twist up into a bun. I was wearing my white Birkenstocks with socks, shorts, and a white hoodie. I smiled, thinking to myself that he is the man version of me. He wore blue Birkenstocks with socks, Adidas sweatpants, and a short-sleeve blue shirt. \n\nWe parked so far across the parking lot, and me being only 5'0 feet tall and petite, I took small steps and what seemed like forever to get back to our car. I was the creative one in the relationship. The one who had a smile as big as the sun. A true libra woman. He was shy, thoughtful and, quiet and, the most intelligent man I knew. An accurate cancer man, he was perfect. A perfect black man, and I was his woman, a perfect black woman.The sun beamed at me, \"damn, it's hot.\" I admit my outfit was cute and laid back, but why did I wear a sweatshirt today. It's hotter than hell out here, I thought to myself.\n\n\nSuddenly there were screams across the parking lot, and people began to run. I felt this strange feeling inside the pit of my stomach; I knew it before seeing it. Something made me run. I ran as fast as I could, approaching the white Nissan car. It was at this moment my soul left my body. Seeing a loved one wrongfully dead can put life into perspective for you.\n\n\nMy breathing deepened. I ran to his side. His body is on the ground, his hands still holding the grocery bags. Immediately, I felt guilt. Guilty. Why were we arguing? Why didn't I come to the car with him? Tears poured from my eyes... three cop cars surrounded us .... Five law officers standing with guns drawn calling for backup. Besides him was another man, a black man. I didn't know him. We didn't know him. He was wearing a green tye-dye shirt. People surrounded us, and some people were recording with their phones, and some people were screaming. I was hyperventilating. He is the love of my life, and they shot him seven times. At least that's how many bullet holes I could see. I held his hand tightly and stared into his dark brown eyes. \"Baby, I'm here. I'm here with you.\" He began to cough up blood. I examined the bullet wound to his stomach. I tried to put pressure on it. \"Please hold on, baby, please.\" I looked around, but there was no ambulance, and no one was trying to help. I cried the saddest cry—a cry for help. \"Baby, I won't leave you. I'm so sorry. I love you.\" his eyes began to roll back rapidly. \"NO!\" I screamed a horrific scream! \"Please don't let go, baby.\" He whispered his last dying words, \"I won't ever let go, baby.\"\n\n\nHe was gone. The Reality of what was happening crept back in, the officers all screaming at me. \"Hands where I can see them!\" I whispered lowly to myself. \"I can't believe this... no, no, no, not mine.\" I was having a breakdown. I began to scream at the top of my lungs. \"You killed him! How could you do that! He never did anything to anyone! He was a beautiful person! He never broke one law; he couldn't hurt a fly!!! You killed him before we could marry and have children! YOU TOOK HIM FROM THE UNIVERSE; YOU HAVE FUCKED UP TODAY BECAUSE HE WASN'T YOURS TO TAKE!\" I screamed, my voice shaking furiously. Two of the officers stepped forward. \"GET ON THE FUCKING GROUND.\"\n\n\nAs I looked around, my eyes couldn't believe it. So many thoughts entered my mind. He wanted to live on earth to get away from our home planet. He wanted a change. He said if we can make it on the old earth planet, we can make it anywhere. I protested. I told him I did not want to live on this planet. It did not make sense to choose a broken world. I told him that our ancient ancestors bordered ships, leaving behind what the earth population calls Africa to find a new home among the stars above, and those of our ancestors who stayed behind there were not even traces of them left. Why did he want to come back to a planet full of violence, hatred, and poverty?\n\n\nI became a school teacher. He became a physical therapist. We did everything right; we followed the rules we contributed. If we were on our home planet, I would be able to save him. I would have been able to heal him. I would still have him. This planet is so behind on technology. Back on the home planet, the elders voted not to blow the earth up; that was their biggest mistake to only observe for research purposes is such a waste this planet is infected.\n\n\n\"GET ON THE FUCKING GROUND.\" the two officers walked closer. I shouted back, \"HE WAS SPECIAL!!!\" I knew I wasn't supposed to do this, reveal myself to the earth's population. But something had to be done; I needed my justice. Not another social media post. Not another face on a T-Shirt. No more paid administrative leave. Not another story for channel five news. You know he was always the likable, nice one in our relationship. He was an idealist. He didn't want to see how things were; instead, he wanted to see them as they could be. Without a second thought, I pressed the small button on my locator bracelet, sending the signal. To think, just two months ago, he told me I shouldn't have to wear it anymore and not to be so paranoid. My eyes began to glow bright green. A teenage girl recording shouted, \"What The Hell!\" I spoke softly. \"Ra, I am sorry, please forgive me\" I decided to lock all my good parts into a small box and tuck it away in the deepest part of my mind. Looking at his lifeless body, I, too, was gone and robbed, like everything else on this planet. The officers drew their guns. \"NO MORE GUNS,\" I shouted, waving my right hand softly; their weapons flew out of their hands. \"HIS LIFE WAS NOT YOURS TO TAKE!!! AND YOUR PUNISHMENT IS TO FEEL MY PAIN FIVE THOUSAND TIMES OVER!!!\" I raised my left hand high, all the officer's mouths shut. I had complete control over their bodies; they all began to shake. My bracelet vibrated and glowed orange; they were close. Turning quickly, I walked towards his body. Using my right hand since my left hand was occupied, I pulled his essence from his body. I'm not going to leave his soul on this planet. His physical body would sadly remain. I released the police officers from my cosmic hold. Soon I would have my justice. All the officers were dizzy and nauseous. In my left had a ball of light formed. I whispered, \"baby, I'm here, I got you, I love you.\"\n\n\nMy bracelet now glowed red. I looked up at the sky. A single beam of light flashing down upon me. Some people ran. Some people continued to record. Some people screamed; everyone looked up, eyes squinting. I stepped into the light and beamed up to the spacecraft.\n\n\n3 MONTHS LATER\n\n\nEveryone had their eyes glued to the television in the small diner. \"Yo miss, can you turn the T.V. Volume up?\" his deep voice echoed. The waitress nodded yes, and she turned the T.V. volume up to 72.\n\n\nNews Reporter: No one can explain what happened three months ago. It's unexplainable. Our nation and the world is shocked. NASA has reported that-\".\n\n\nSuddenly, the T.V. turned off.\n\n\nEveryone started to complain. \"Turn the T.V. Back on!\" an older frail man shouted. Shantell rolled her eyes. There were five of us sitting at the table. Brent was annoyed \"Yo, where is the waitress? We've been sitting here for like 20 minutes.\" he flipped the menu over. Shantell began to speak slowly, \"Can you all believe that all the officers involved in killing those two unarmed black men... literally everyone in their family has died mysteriously. With seven gunshots to their bodies, in the same exact places of how they shot the man wearing a blue shirt. That shit is wild. Like not even just their close family, I'm talking about their wives, husbands, children, cousins, aunts, mamas, daddies, uncles. It's some 23 and Me shit going on.\" She paused dramatically and counited to speak. \"Like even if the officers were related to someone that was like six times removed from their family, they even died. That shit is crazy and the fact that the officers are alive and not harmed but keep losing loved ones.\" She shook her head back and forth; she always exaggerated things. Jayde added, \"That woman was magic.\" Brent laughed. \"Ain't no such thing as magic.\" Shantell batted her eyelashes. \"Brent, then explain black girl magic?\" he smirked, and Jayde continued, \"I always knew aliens were real, but a black beautiful woman alien, I know that's right, I mean sis could have at least taken us with her. Those police officers shot and killed two men who walked through a grocery store parking lot; they minded their business trying to get back to their cars. That's why I said I don't care, respectfully. All we can do now is say their names. And this whole thing with the woman with her glowing eyes and doing all that magic shit, that was pretty cool. Maybe now they'll finally give us the respect we deserve and treat us like human beings! shit, it's 2062. Maybe this will be a wake-up call for them to stop killing us or else.\" his voice was serious and firm. Brent agreed and added, \"It ain't safe for black people to do anything. It's like the early 2000s to the 2030s; you all read the history books, same story new year over and over again. Black people were dying left and right during those years for simple shit, like, for going to the store for a pack of skittles and Arizona flavored mango juice, for talking on the cell phone in their own backyard, getting choked out for buying cigarettes at the bodega, nothing has changed except for now we can add to this list of black people getting shot when leaving the Grocery.
