"first_page_text": "Somewhere Else\n\nI'd like to be somewhere else.\nIn a big city, perhaps.\nMade up of grids\nCracks between the buildings there\nFilled with milling, busking crowds\nSaturated with noise\nSo loud\nThat I'm deaf to my own thoughts.\n\nMaybe somewhere quieter\nWith downy grass\nThat cushions my feet\nAnd tickles my toes\nLeaving my mind a blank slate\nSo that I can take in the countryside,\nNo longer haunted by myself,\nBut aware.\nAnd precise.\nI want to be able to count\nThe blood cells in my chest, hands, feet.\nAnd number the droplets\nThat form on the nape of my neck.\n\nI'd like to be somewhere else.\nIt'd be nice to feel like something more\nThan a vessel that houses\nGuts and gore and rotting thoughts. \nSomewhere that's not the heat of my room\nIn June; but my just-cracked window\nLets in a whistle of air,\nIt's comforting.\nIt reminds me of the sigh\nOf someone I haven't met yet.\n\nI wonder if they'd like to be somewhere else.\nI wonder what they dream\nIf they dream\nWhen they dream.\nDo they do it with their back\nPressed to a paved black top at 2 am\nTrying to decipher the stars from fireflies?\n\nAre they a ball in their bed\nIn a molehill of their sheets\nImagining their own bare feet\nOn dew-speckled grass\nOn a moss-slicked log\nAs we creep through the woods\nAnd head to better tomorrows\nWith moonlit canyons of mud\nIn the spaces of our toes?\n\nI like to think that we'll both be somewhere else.\nSomeday, just not today;\nJust not tomorrow. \nYou can't force a verse \nThat doesn't want to leap, I know. \nFor now, I guess,\nWe'll keep up with wistful memories\nMarked by pins in our maps on the wall.\nMaybe one day we'll stop walking on pebbles.\n",
