"description": "PREAMBLE TO POEM\n\nRecently I came across news that a blossoming actor in Bombay film industry committed suicide I am from his home city, I naturally got moved more than a common reader.\n\n I wish to share my poem that speaks against the bid to commit suicide.\n\nThe opening lines of a contest I participated on suicide was tell-tale: “90 per cent of individuals who die by suicide experience a mental condition. If near and dear ones are determined, they can simply talk out the victim from suicide syndromes.\n\nBefore I could start telling everyone medicine from my experience with the similar ghastly feelings in sixties and seventies, I was stopped in the track by the video of renowned Doctor from India B.M Hegde.\n\nHe cited WHO study which found that western system of medicines was as good as any other systems: Tibetan System of Medicine, Chinese System of Medicine, Integrated Chinese System of Medicine, Hereditary System of Medicine (Father tells son and so on), downright Quackery (Registered Medical Practitioners).\n\nOne indeed wished to castigate him for creating a no-hope situation when he goes on to add that neither surgery nor medicine helps body heal itself., It is your body’s immune system that will decide the healing. Then he goes on to tell that it is tender-love-care (TLC) that helps fire one’s immune system. Sympathy and empathy are the best tools towards this end.\n\nObviously Florence Nightingale did much better job in healing wounded soldiers than more glamorous doctors or surgeons. There is lot of scope of hope for everyone in the society to handle suicide-prone ones. My humble poem titled Dilemma of Death (Why favour it ?) attempted to reflect all these reasoning. It tried to reason with suicide-prone one that there was no heroic in death and it is life which gives lot of opportunities of heroics.\n\nPoets are quite prone to suicidal tendencies which also flare up because of some medicinal intakes. I know at least one great Urdu poet (incidentally or interesting a teacher of English in an University in India) whose wife fell quite short of level of his imagination of beauty. She became quite a butt of his ridicule every now and then. Seeing her mother’s ridicule day and night, their only son committed suicide one day.\n\nStunned, the poet did not go to University to take his classes for many days. But finally when he did, the topic of his first lecture was Suicide & Its Effect On Society.\n\nI also hear that suicide took heavy toll of American poets also. Common suicide-prone mortals obviously need more of T-L-C as said above.\n\n\n",
