He was an only child and lived with his overprotective Mother. His Father died in a car accident when he was eight, and he and his Mother had a weird and unnatural relationship. His Mother was afraid of ending up on her own so she discouraged David from having friends, especially girls, and at thirty-three David had never had sex. On the two occasions he arranged dates with girls his Mother had a panic attack. Now things were changing, he had a woman. On the way home from work he met Diane on the train. They had been on three dates and at the end of the third date they kissed. The following day all David could think about was Diane and the kiss.\n\n Instinctively he knew this was a turning point in his life and if he did not change now he never would. He asked Diane to come to his house and meet his mother, she took some convincing but David made her realise it was time for him to be his own man. For the first time in his life, he felt excited by the future.\n\n David had not warned his Mother that he was bringing Diane home, and as he put his key in the lock his heart was pounding.\n\nHis Mother was in the kitchen and he took Diane into the living room\n\n“Hi Mum I’m home and there’s somebody I’d like you to meet.”\n\nHis Mother came into the living room, and there was an uncomfortable silence when she saw them standing there holding hands.\n\n“Mum this is Diane, the woman in my life.” \n\n His Mum stepped forward and shook hands with Diane.\n\n“So, David this is the ‘woman’ in your life?” \n\nHis Mother placed emphasis on the word ‘woman’ and smiled.\n\n“Yes Mum she is, and why are you grinning? Please don’t screw this up for me.”\n\n“Why would I do that? I’m pleased for you.”Said his Mother\n\nShe suddenly burst out laughing, tears streamed from her eyes and she held her stomach. Every time she looked up at David and Diane she got worse and the laughter became hysterical.\n\nDavid was shocked and just stared at his Mother. He had never seen her like that before. She was mostly unhappy, and it was as though she had stored up twenty-five years of laughter for this moment.\n\n“Mother please stop.” \n\nHis voice was shrill and close to breaking point\n\nShe put both hands over her mouth in a desperate bid to control herself, but once again doubled over with laughter and whispered”\n\n“So this is the woman in your life?\n\n“Yes she is “screamed David\n\n“I have bad news for you son, that’s not a woman, it’s a man dressed in woman’s clothes.”\n\nShe collapsed onto the sofa and burst into another fit of helpless laughter.\n\nDavid turned around and looked at Diane, she looked back at him with an uncomfortable smile, pulled off her blond wig, and said.\n\n“I’m so sorry David, I thought you knew.”\n\n“For the love of God!, we kissed”. He screamed like a wild animal, pulled open the flat door, and ran down the street like a man possessed. \n\nAfter a few minutes, David’s Mother looked across and said in a relaxed voice.\n\n“Take a seat John also known as Diane; you did a fantastic job.\n\nMany thanks.”\n\n“Do you have my money? “asked John.\n\nShe took a brown envelope from her handbag and handed it to John.\n\n“There’s £650 in the envelope and here’s a £400 bonus.”\n\nJohn counted the money and put it in his pocket.\n\n“I have a question; why do that to your son?\n\n“I was reading his diary, he wanted a woman, and to move out. After thirty-three years of devotion to that ungrateful wretch, he was secretly planning to dump me. That’s when I came up with my master plan. I thought I’d give him more woman than he could handle. Why should I spend the rest of my life on my own?",
